Chapter 1
A Ghostly Visit
October 31st, 1981, the clouds hovered over Bridgeton, Missouri in a dark manner as six teens rode in the gray van on their way to the Lodge. One of these six teens was a detective. She just loved mysteries of all kinds. One day the kids wanted to swim in the indoor pool at the lodge. While they were swimming, the girl, whose name was Kaylee, saw a woman in an old-fashioned dress walking around on the third floor. Nobody except for Kaylee noticed this. She watched the woman for some time until the woman vanished into room #113. Kaylee stood in the pool staring at the room until one of her friends, Joe knocked into her. “Kaylee, what are you staring at?” asked Joe.
“Didn’t you see her, Joe?” questioned Kaylee.
“Who?” he asked again.
“Never mind,” replied Kaylee.
Later at dinner everyone noticed that Kaylee was acting strange. Then Jessica, the oldest of the group asked, “Kaylee, what’s wrong?”
“I’ll tell you later,” replied Kaylee.
After dinner the six teens left their rooms and met beside the pool.
“Okay Kaylee what’s up?” questioned Scott, the oldest of the boys. Kaylee made sure no one was around to hear. “Okay I saw somebody up on the third floor. It wasn’t an ordinary somebody. It was a woman and she was wearing these old-fashioned clothes. Like from the late 1700’s. She looked kind of mopey. It almost looked like she was crying. The reason why I stared at her and watched her was because she went to this certain room and walked right through the door!”
Everyone stared at Kaylee and looked as if she grew a third eye! Then they all started laughing. Some even fell off their chair. Kaylee started to cry and exclaimed, “I saw her, I really did.”
Allison, the second oldest of the group said, through laughs, “Kaylee, it was just a figment of your imagination.”
Kaylee cried even harder and said, “You’ve got to believe me!”
They just laughed even harder and Kaylee ran away crying.
Chapter 2
The Adventure Begins
All the kids went to the game room, everyone except Kaylee. She was still crying, so they thought. Scott and Todd, who were brothers, were playing a hunting game. Allison was playing ping-pong with Jessica and Joe was playing a surfing game. All of a sudden Todd saw someone at the corner of his eye. He looked up at the third floor and saw a woman in old-fashioned clothes. She looked like she was crying. Scott said, “Todd, what are you loo….” Scott saw the woman too, and then gradually everyone saw her. Some even went pale. The woman went to the door that Kaylee saw. She stopped, turned around and looked at the kids with sad eyes and cried. She then turned and went into the door. Everyone was shocked. Then Allison said, “Unbelievable! We should go talk to Kaylee!”
The kids ran out of the game room and ran to find Kaylee. Finally they found her in the lobby.
“Kaylee, there you are. We’ve been looking everywhere for you!” exclaimed Joe.
“Why? Have you come to laugh at me more?” questioned Kaylee.
“No,” said Jessica, “we believe you. We… we saw the woman in old-fashioned clothes.”
Kaylee looked satisfied. Then she said, “So you all believe me?”
Everyone nodded.
“Then let’s get started!” exclaimed Kaylee. “What are you talking about?” asked Scott.
“Well, after I ran away I decided I didn’t need your help so I did a little research,” explained Kaylee.
“How in the world did you do that?” asked Allison.
“I’m glad you asked. Actually I asked Mrs. Jackson, at the front desk, if I could use her laptop. She let me, so I did a little research on this lodge and you won’t believe what I’ve found! I actually found out that an earthquake occurred and the woman we saw was the only one who died in the collapsing of this building. She tried to escape but when she reached this lobby the chandelier crashed on her head and she died. Now, her “ghost” supposedly went to her room because apparently her soul was never laid to rest. In other words her body decomposed and that’s that.”
Everyone was in awe and some were even looking at the new chandelier in the lobby in fright. Then Todd said, “But that’s just a legend, right?”
Kaylee stared at him for a while then said, “Behind every myth and legend there is truth. I think that the story I told you is a down-right lie.”
“Why do you think that?” questioned Jessica.
Kaylee replied, “I don’t know. I just have a gut feeling that someone’s trying to trick us. I know for fact that the woman’s name was Isabella Roshan and that she was engaged to Carlos Vienna. What I don’t know is how Isabella really died, but I’m determined to find out!”
